In the fall of 2019, with support from Telefilm Canada and the CMF, a group of passionate, committed women representing WIFT Atlantic, FCTMN - Québec, WIFT Toronto, WIFT Alberta and WIFT Vancouver – and Women in View travelled to Auckland, New Zealand.
They presented at the WIFT International Summit as part of the Power of Inclusion conference, a global summit, where international and local voices shared their stories, experiences and expertise to generate momentum for a future where representation and inclusion are the new industry standards.
Inspired by the international community and connecting for the first time in person with each other across Canada, the chapters committed to working together in a more formal way. Then in March the COVID-19 pandemic hit. A game-changer in many ways. But, thanks to funding from the CMF, the newly formed WIFT Canada Coalition was poised to launch online programming of national significance for all of its chapter members as well the screen industry across Canada. In this past year, the Coalition has not only delivered over a dozen national webinars but also has initiated two significant research projects.
